Introduction
This role is individually accountable for assisting the BU in establishing and embedding a culture of compliance as well as ensuring that risk processes are implemented at BU level.

Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in business related courses or finance
  • Professional qualification such as ACCA or equivalent is an added advantage.
Experience:
  • 2 years’ work experience.
Job Specification
  • Challenges risk management information received from reporting entities
  • Ensures risk processes (risk assessment, identification, management, reporting and optimization) are occurring at BU level
  • Provides knowledge of systems/supporting guidance, procedures and assists the business in implementation of risk issues
  • Provides oversight for risk management activities ensuring Group Risk Policy statements are met
  • Identifies applicable legislation and analyses the impact thereof on the BU and applies this to BU processes and procedures
  • Ensures compliance by the BU with applicable legislation by means of the implementation of compliance risk management and monitoring plans
  • Ensures monthly risk control logs are updated and follows up with various Line Managers
  • Performs quarterly compliance audits on processes
  • Performs monthly quality assurance audits on claims processes
  • Compiles monthly reports (standing reports) on issues identified and reports on actions taken to rectify the problem
  • Reports compliance breaches to management on a monthly/quarterly basis
  • Facilitates and in appropriate circumstances partakes in, remedial actions developed by the BU to help eliminate noncompliance with legislation and regulation

The Claims department plays a significant role in upholding the company’s credibility in its ability to meet its liabilities. Motor insurance claims are numerous, and the business landscape is very competitive.

Job Specification
  • Register and post new claims and processes them within the set standards to ensure quality customer service is given.
  • Set initial reserves for new claims and recommend reserve changes
  • Close files as payment/recoveries are made
  • Ensure prompt salvage & reinsurance recovery payments are received and communicated to Accounts for posting
  • Prepare claim summary reports
  • Track by regularly updating the claims register to determine progress of the claim and advising customers on status.
  • Raise and record payment requisition voucher, forwarding the requisition to finance department and tracking the file to ensure that the cheque/credit note is received back for dispatch to the claimant within the stipulated period.
  • Identify and pursue recoveries at the point of claims registration & processing (facultative, treaties, excess of loss, co-insurance and TPO) and issuance of demand letters then passing on to legal section.
  • Promptly attends to customer’s complaints and inquiries and obtain feedback from customers and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Prepare claims statistical monthly/quarterly reports to ATI, Commissioner of Insurance and any other reports as directed by assistant manager or claims manager and ensuring that they are dispatched on time and maintaining records.
  • Ensure good relationship with Finance & U/Writing as per agreed SLA’s

Job Summary 

Reporting to the  Underwriting Manager, the role entails monitoring the various reinsurance arrangements including treaty and facultative reinsurance protection for all classes of business written by the company in line with the company's operating manuals and the departmental objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
Reinsurance:
  • To perform routine reinsurance administrative duties, such as maintaining record
  • To verify and process payments for reinsurance companies by providing status reports on payments
  • To organize and prepare monthly and quarterly reports on reinsurance
  • To record reinsurance information accurately
  • To perform reconciliation of premium billing statements, WHT tax calculations and maintain various reinsurance registers.
Underwriting 
  • Apply standard rates, calculate premiums, and underwrite new business, renewals, endorsements, and cancellations
  • Generations of renewal notices and follow up
  • Prepare premium invoices and collection
  • Analyze and assess proposals and risk notes and report to the team leader on the need to carry risk surveys for small to medium size non-standard risks
  • Works closely with BD marketing staff/agents, brokers to develop and maintain positive business partnerships
  • Liaison with brokers/agents and direct clients to verify information, explain and interpret coverage
  • Ensure compliance with standards of service/Customer service charter in all underwriting operations
  • Ensure proper documentation and updated records keeping in EDMS
  • Perform any other duties as may be requested by Management
 Deliverables (work elements)
  • To analyze the risks accepted and ensure risks are yielded properly
  • To obtain all necessary underwriting information required to place the risk in the reinsurance market.
  • To arrange proper reinsurance protection as and when required
  • To manage the administration of the reinsurance activities
  • To monitor timely submission of closing and accounting documents as well as for settlement of premium recovery of claims from reinsurers
  • To maintain accuracy of reinsurance contracts with reference to original terms at which reinsurance is accepted
  • To maintain efficient communication lines between the company and brokers
  • To prepare reinsurance underwriting and claims statistics on a regular basis and update the same at periodic intervals as per requirements.
  • To review reinsurance payments/recoveries relating to reinsurance premium, commissioning and claims
Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • Progress towards CII qualifications, Reinsurance certificate
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Organized and self-driven
  • Knowledge of Reinsurance Treaty, Facultative wording and Reinsurance slips preparation
  • Good analytical skills
  • Computer knowledge
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Good understanding of general Insurance products
