Deputy Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Abdallah Ulenga, noted that it was said that fishing activities would be suspended so that the fishermen could benefit from the sector by securing loans from financial institutions as well as contributing to social security funds.

He said this during her visit to Kagera Region during a session with representatives from financial institutions, social security funds, and some fishermen of the district.

He said the fishing industry in the country including operations on Lake Victoria has not yet made a significant contribution to GDP.

“The total value of the commercial fishery for one year on Lake Victoria in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda is estimated to be shs.  6 trillion, Tanzania receives 1.6 trillion, while it owns a large lake area, Uganda and Kenya owning a small area receive 4.4 trillion.

Following the situation Deputy Minister Target, demanded that fishery activities be regulated and fishers receive loans to promote the sector that has been relied on to contribute to the nation's income and to individuals.

Deputy Minister Ulenga, has continued his visit to the region where he has already visited the Mlela village in Kandura County and pledged TShs.  John Alcohol Magufuli who has been collecting revenue to bring development to the people.
